Brown Bear Books is a cozy nonprofit in Bakersfield, California. Dedicated to growing readers, supporting teachers, and strengthening our community through book access, literacy programs, and the love of reading.

Teacher Requests
By completing our request form, teachers can receive books and essential classroom materials. We’re here to help!
Book Drives
We collect gently used books through school and community donation boxes. You can also schedule a pickup, making it easy to share stories.
Donations
A financial gift directly supports our mission by funding program supplies, educational resources, and community events.
About Us
A recent report has ranked Bakersfield, California as the fourth least educated city in the United States. The report places us at 147 out of 150 cities in terms of educational attainment. Brown Bear Books is a nonprofit public benefit organization dedicated to promoting literacy, education, and community engagement by providing access to books, reading programs and a welcoming community space. We support local schools and green initiatives to foster lifelong learning and awareness.

Currently our 501(c)(3) nonprofit status is (PENDING). You will not receive a receipt for your donation at this time, however we do expect this to change soon.
